K9 Rehabilitation
Not all dog training programs are created equally. At a Dog’s Life with Lia we do not work on the dog. We work with the dog and their guardians. K9 Rehab is the ultimate solution for dogs with severe behavior problems and their owners who think they are alone in this tense process of trying to understand their dog and their reactions. Very much like in the human world, training in dogs is different than rehab. We train to get better at something. We go to rehab (therapy, boot camp, facilities) in order to change our behavior.
BITE HISTORY AND OTHER EXTREME BEHAVIORS
K9 Rehab is designed for dogs that seem at odds with the world around them. Extreme behaviors that can range from, but are not limited to, severe separation anxiety, resource guarding, growling, lunging, biting all point to the same thing: the dog is unbalanced, feeling off centered. They are asking for help in the only way that they can, by being untrusting of the world around them and acting accordingly. The relationship between dog and owner needs an intervention to reestablish the trust and/or respect that has been lost. The purpose of K9 Rehab is exactly that, creating new pathways of behaviors that will allow the dog to start trusting and respecting the owner again. But more importantly, it is here that the owner will be able to regain the confidence that their dog will listen and respect them when asked to do so.
Rehab entails a minimum of five weeks since trust, once broken, takes time to be regained. Owners receive weekly sessions in order to start understanding their dog and their needs. Learning about the four states of mind, understanding the meaning of being present when working with a dog, the power of intention setting, and many more tools that extend beyond simply training your dog. We pride ourselves for working on the relationship between dogs and their humans. The success of all of our programs comes from teaching the human how to speak dog and feel confident when giving direction in a way that makes sense to a dog. After that, it is a simple matter of adding human words to desired behaviors (down, come, sit) since the communication line has been open. The dog has developed trust and respect for the human, because the human can now understand the dog’s behavior.

K9 Rehab offers the owner and dog the opportunity to become the best version of themselves together, in a safe and supportive environment. Owner participation is not only crucial but often life changing. It is in these weekly sessions that the magic happens, that two species finally see each other as independent beings and can learn how to grow together. With the human learning how to be effective in providing protection and direction and the dog learning how to trust and be confident that they are part of a balanced pack.
We are committed to making the relationship between you and your dog a successful and joyous one, providing a lifetime of support and encouragement in order to make that happen. In addition, boarding and daytime socials are offered exclusively for graduates of the training programs. This allows your pup to continue socializing and interacting with balanced dogs while you are away or have a busy schedule.

Welcome to Social Club, a place where like minded dogs gather to learn, decompress, brush up on skills and socialize. Think daycare meets finishing school. Summer camp with tasks involved. Boarding school but with play. It is the next level in dog training.

We love our dogs, we want the best for them, however our frenetic schedules leave little time for us to truly fulfill their needs. Our modern city lives are not the ideal setting for our dogs to be the best versions of themselves without a little help. That’s where the Social Club comes in: a safe and welcoming spot where your pup will deepen their learning while socializing and interacting with balanced dogs.
SMALL GROUPS FOR BEST RESULTS
The Social Club is available only to former graduates of our training programs, hence the attention and care your pup will receive is unmatched. Small groups allow us to help your dog brush up in any area of training that they are struggling with. Assisting them in returning to a balanced state while you are away at work or have a busy schedule and are unable to fulfill them. The Social Club is the best gift you can give your pup. This is the place for enjoyment, relaxation and learning. A place where hyper dogs burn out excess energy. Timid ones find peers that will allow them to flourish. Confused ones get the support for brushing up on learned skills. Bored ones get new lessons to master and everyone has the time of their lives.
