Board and Train Adult Program
Owning a dog is one of the most unique experiences one can have. Cohabitating with a different species and being able to share our time and space with a being so different from us is indeed an experience worth cherishing. However we have, as of late, not been very fair to our pups. We expect ever more of them in terms of good behavior, but constantly fail to provide the most basic guidance on how we would like them to act. In all of our training programs we teach humans how to provide simple and effective direction that will create the best relationship between them and their dogs.
THREE FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS TAILORED ESPECIALLY FOR YOU
Our board and train program is the ultimate solution for the break in communication. In the program dogs learn three basic concepts: Follow – Surrender – Give Space. In essence, they learn to look for guidance and be respectful when faced with an unknown situation. We teach dogs how to coexist in this very human world of ours. They learn behaviors that are acceptable, they learn self soothing mechanisms, they learn commands that the human might use in the real world. They learn how to live as a balanced member of the pack.
All the while owners receive weekly sessions in order to start understanding their dog and their needs. Learning about the four states of mind, understanding the meaning of being present when working with a dog, the power of intention setting, and many more tools that extend beyond simply training your dog. We pride ourselves for working on the relationship between a dog and their human. The success of our programs comes from teaching the human how to speak dog and feel confident when giving direction in a way that makes sense to a dog. After that, it is a simple matter of adding human words to desired behaviors (down, come, sit) since the communication line has been open. The dog has developed trust and respect for the human, because the human can now understand the dog’s behavior.
All our programs are tailored to fit each specific relationship, working at a pace that makes sense to both human and pup. Our training philosophy is based on dog psychology. Our teaching technique is rooted on the three essential D’s of dog training: Distance -Duration – Distraction. That means that we start with a solid foundation and then start building on what the dog has mastered.
In the first week of your dog’s stay, exercises are mainly done with little distraction and distance. Think crate and bed exercises where we ask the dog to stay while we are in the same room. Or asking them to wait five minutes on a bed before allowing them to come and eat. The following weeks consist of repetition of exercises while adding on duration, distance and distraction. We start asking the dog to stay on a bed while other dogs are frolicking around. Or we ask the dog to follow us when walking in a busy street. By teaching them that they are safe, understood and part of a pack, the relationship between the dog and the world around them becomes less fraught. What they have learned is that whenever they are unsure they can look to the human for direction and it will be understood.
PRIVATE SESSIONS
Board and train offers the owner and dog the opportunity to become the best version of themselves together. Owner participation is not only crucial but often life changing. It is in these weekly sessions that the magic happens, that two species finally see each other as independent beings and can learn how to grow together. With humans learning how to be effective in providing protection and direction and the dog learning how to trust and be confident that they are part of a balanced pack.
The Board and Train Program provides the foundation, knowledge and care to set you and your pup for success. It is a process of learning together and conquering milestones one step at a time. ACCESS TO BOARDING AND DAYTIME SPECIALS
In addition, boarding and daytime socials are offered exclusively for graduates of the training programs. This allows your pup to continue socializing and interacting with balanced dogs while you are away or have a busy schedule.
